On June 18, 2022, the Miami Police Department held a “Guns 4 Ukraine” firearm buyback event.

According to officials, the objective of the event was to collect firearms off the streets to aid Ukraine in its defense against the Russian invasion. The event was completely voluntary, with no questions asked regarding the origin of a firearm. Citizens were compensated with gift cards: $50 per handgun, $100 per shotgun or rifle, and $150 per high-powered rifle.

Police considered the event a success: 68 firearms were bought back from citizens. While it was later determined that many of the guns may not be able to be sent to Ukraine due to their poor condition, Miami Police Department Chief Manuel Morales announced that 167 firearms are going to be sent to Irpin, Ukraine. This includes both confiscated guns already held by the police and guns bought back at Guns 4 Ukraine.
