An Escalating Strategy

On October 26, exercises for a strategic force known as "Grom-2022" began. On the first day of training, a massive nuclear strike was simulated. The Russian nuclear triad participated in the drill: Yars missile systems, a Tula nuclear submarine, and Tu-95MS strategic bombers all helped to create the simulated nuclear attack.

According to military analyst and editor of Military Russia Dmitry Kornev, the exercise was a bit more unusual this time: "The exercises of the strategic forces are devoted to an unusual subject which has not been seen before: they were training to carry out a major retaliatory strike on a nuclear strike on Russian territory."

This new way of practicing a nuclear drill may be in relation to Russia's recent accusations claiming that Ukraine is planning to use a dirty bomb against Russian forces.
