A Mother of... Something

A Mother of... Something
Heroic. Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti.

On November 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin presented the title of "Mother-Heroine" to Medni Kadyrova, the wife of Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya.

Putin instituted the "Mother-Heroine" award in mid-August 2022 to honor women who have raised ten or more children (large families are, after all, a traditional Russian value). Medni's status as a "Mother-Heroine" is likely only enhanced by her role as the wife of one of Russia's most goofily patriotic (and corrupt) leaders.

In addition to the title, Medni is also entitled to a payment of one million rubles ($16,000).

Kadyrov reportedly has twelve children through Medni, as well as two adopted sons. Earlier in the invasion of Ukraine, three of Kadyrov's sons were reportedly heading to the front lines. This was before Kadyrov exempted Chechnya from mobilization orders.
