If you were thinking that Russia's National Order of Merit for Dentistry, First Degree, is reserved for doctors who work on teeth, think again: pro-Putin leaders are eligible, too.

On June 27, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Putin-loving president of the Russian republic of Chechnya, announced on social media that he had received the medical award. The honor was bestowed upon him at the opening of Dental Clinic No. 1 in Grozny, the Chechen capital.

At the same ceremony, Kadyrov bestowed Chechnya's highest honor, the Order of Kadyrov, to Yunus Umarov, who will be the clinic's chief physician.

Ramzan Kadyrov has been a longtime supporter of Putin and a notoriously corrupt leader with a checkered relationship with human rights. He has wholeheartedly taken the Kremlin's side in the invasion of Ukraine, personally sending Chechen units to reinforce Russian forces.
