Corruption charges against Eduard Ilyin, former head of the Vasileostrovsky District of St. Petersburg, were suspended after Ilyin signed a contract to participate in the war on Ukraine.

Ilyin faced charges for forging documents, taking large bribes, abuse of office, and causing significant damage to state property, all while serving as head of the district. After the court granted his request to be conscripted into the Russian Army, Ilyin was taken into military custody.

Ilyin had served as the head of the Vasileostrovsky District Administration since 2019, and was arrested in January 2023.
