Russia's invasion of Ukraine hasn't been going too well lately. And the latest news from the front line is far from rosy.

A massive Ukrainian counterattack that began on September 7 has driven Russian forces in Kharkiv Oblast all the way back to the Russian border. In less than a week, Ukrainian forces have retaken hundreds of square miles of territory and further eroded confidence in Russia's military abilities.

While exact numbers of casualties have not yet been publicized, current reports hint that the advance has been swift and one-sided, with Ukrainian forces facing hardly any resistance and capturing prisoners and war materiel. The cities of Izyum, Kharkiv, and Ternova have all been returned to Ukrainian control.

Russian forces maintain a strong grip along the front further south. However, the Kharkiv counteroffensive has led to the fighting inching closer to native Russian soil.

A complete victory for Ukraine may still be far off. However, Russia will likely only become further isolated among the international community as its invasion of Ukraine continues to stutter.
