A teaser trailer for the film “We” based on Yevgeny Zamyatin’s novel was released this week on Big Cinema’s YouTube channel. The film was originally planned for release in 2020, but the trailer states that it has been postponed to 2021. The film’s director is Hamlet Dulian, and some of the actors include Yegor Koreshkov, Philip Jankowski, Elena Podkaminskaya, Yuri Kolokolnikov, and Sofia Doniants.

Zamyatin’s well-known scifi novel takes place 200 years after a Great War, in which almost all of the world’s population has been destroyed. The surviving inhabitants all live together in One State – a utopian society. Each person in One State is assigned an individual serial number, the same uniform, glass houses, and other things that lack individuality and make a personal life unthinkable. There are a few rebel survivors, however, who work to overthrow One State.

According to the director, “People increasingly support radical ideas that conflict with each other. Such ‘extreme’ ideas and proposals cause a deformation of values and social guidelines, which ultimately leads to a social explosion and total control over the person. Now this is happening all over the world. And Zamyatin’s novel We continues to be a classic and a powerful social work, raising relevant themes even after 100 years.”
