Gummy Bear Suspension

Haribo Director Walter Nikolaus announced that the company is suspending production of their widely enjoyed gummy candies in Russia. While this may be alarming for those who enjoy the famous Haribo gummy bear, it is only a temporary situation. Haribo asked that contracts not be terminated and made note that this is simply a suspension that will cause delays in production.

Haribo is one of the world's best-known candy companies. Founded in 1920 in Germany, it has grown to market jellies, marshmallows, gummies, and other candies, all created in 16 factories worldwide. In 2021, Haribo's Russia-based revenue was approximately R2.1 billion, with a net profit of R102.5 million.

Haribo is not the first company to suspend production in Russia since the start of the Ukrainian invasion, on February 24. Over 750 companies have halted production due to economic changes brought on by the Ukrainian conflict, e.g. increases in costs of production, raw materials, and transportation.
