On July 9, a man dressed in a military uniform threatened a woman with a gun near a kindergarten in Vladivostok. Authorities found the culprit, a former soldier in Russia's War on Ukraine with a criminal history, and forced him to apologize on camera.

The woman, an unnamed 26-year-old, was on her way to pick up her child at kindergarten when she passed by Chasovitina Street 7, just a few steps away from a playground where children were playing.  A man in military uniform drew his gun and began asking her questions. The victim said that he asked her, "Are you peeing yourself? Did you pee yourself?"

The man in uniform was with another person, who, according to the victim, smiled as she was being threatened. The woman was let go, but the perpetrator told her he would "shoot at her buns." Ans she said in an interview with News.vl, "I was in shock and cried all the way home."

On July 11, Vladivostok Police released a video of the perpetrator apologizing for the incident. Authorities confirmed that the man was a 35-year-old local resident, but did not specify whether the man had participated in Russia's War on Ukraine. Baikal 24, however, confirmed that the perpetrator had fought in Russian trenches and also that he had a criminal record. According to the publication, the former convict had also shot at another woman that same day at that same location.

According to Novaya Gazeta Evropa, in 2025, 8,000 returning Russian soldiers were convicted of a crime.
