"White Nights," an early novella by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, was a top seller in the United Kingdom in 2024, due at least in part to a TikTok trend.

According to The Guardianbookstore managers across the UK noticed a significant uptick in sales of this short work, which typically would not even be the most popular text by Dostoyevsky. This surge in popularity can be traced to the book's prevalence on "BookTok," a corner on the video-sharing app TikTok devoted to discussion and recommendation of literature.

The novella narrates a brief romance taking place during St. Petersburg's iconic summer "white nights." Some BookTok users mention the theme of fleeting romance as a reason the novella drew them.

Another reason may be its length, a mere 80 pages.
