Pirates, Pooches, and Another Putin

In this week's Odder News: corruption and nepotism are distinct; suspicions mount on an Aeroflot flight; and the ISS does a little acrobatics. 

• Is change in the air in Russia? With the help of a new leader for the "People Against Corruption" Party, maybe. Just ignore the fact that he's President Putin's cousin, Roman Putin. Move along. Nothing to see here, folks...
• Francophone Russians, rejoice: drivers' licenses are set to add English and French translations, which is perfect for those cross-continental road trips where Russian drivers are likely to encounter people who only speak French.
• A resident of the town of Tolyatti received a heating bill this week for 30.4 billion roubles, about $428 million. While the technical error was shortly rectified, the incident marks one of the only times heating bills can be considered newsworthy.
• Evasive maneuvers! Russian space agency engineers had to correct the course of the International Space Station last week to avoid collision with a piece of debris, an action which was probably less cool than it sounds.
• Aeroflot recently denied dozens of animals from boarding a flight from Shanghai to Moscow, suspecting a smuggling ring. This sounds extreme until you realize that 39 passengers were attempting to bring a total of 71 animals with them. Didn't we already go through this?
• Avast, ye scurvy dogs! A recent investigation has found that Russian piracy (Arrrr!) ran rampant with the onset of coronavirus isolation rules, reaching the highest levels ever for the country. For instance, on April 4, the day Putin declared nationwide quarantine, 17 million files were downloaded illegally — 25% the world total, a statistic that includes Davy Jones' Locker.
