From the Big Screen to an Online Meme

From the Big Screen to an Online Meme
Dr. Livesey struts his stuff. YouTube, Trending Vid

Unexpectedly, a seemingly random character from the Soviet animated Treasure Island movie has made it big in the world of memes.

Doctor Livesey has become a hit on the web thanks to his jovial personality and masculine "Chad" energy. The most popular iteration of the meme depicts Doctor Livesey swaggering with two companions as techno music plays in the background.  Often, people will edit out the background to put Doctor Livesey in familiar and humorous locations, or replace him with characters from other franchises.

Livesey is a critical character in the original Treasure Island and in the 1988 Soviet film. He is jovial and perpetually grinning, and he is a trusted ally of the boy hero Jim.

The phenomenon has drawn raised eyebrows in Russia. One newscast claimed the "popular Western meme" highlights Russia's superiority, yes, even among members.

Indeed, much like Russia, the internet is a beautiful and terrible place.
