From Catcher in the Rye to Harvesting Rye

From Catcher in the Rye to Harvesting Rye
Another year of nationalist education.  RussianLife files

"Traditional values" and "religious studies" classes will be added to primary schools across Russia this academic year, while literature courses will drop international authors.

In an effort by the Ministry of Education to update curricula to align with the "changed geopolitical situation," region-specific labor classes will also teach students topics like "Crop Production" and "Aircraft Modeling."

In literature classes, the Harry Potter series and books by J.D. Salinger are being nixed, in addition to books by the Russian writers Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Viktor Pelevin. Among the replacements for these texts are a collection of essays by participants in Russia's War on Ukraine.

This marks a continuation of nationalist propaganda being taught in schools in the wake of the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
