Adygeya

Adygeya

Name: Nina Zotina

Age: 28

Profession: Photographer

City: Maykop, Adygeya Republic

How long have you been doing photography? What style or genre most interests you? Four years. Photojournalism and sport photography, as well as documentary photography.

Can you give us a short description of your city? Where is it located? What is it famous for? Adygeya is located in Russia’s south; the republic’s capital city is Maykop.

What is something about your city that only locals would know?

There are, on average, 200-250 clear sky days each year in Adygeya. Because of this, it is called “Sunny Adygeya.”

The name Maykop comes from the name of the river Miyeko: miye (“apple tree”) + ko (“valley”). In other words, Maykop is a city located at the mouth of the river Miyeko or, literally, “Mouth of Apple Tree Valley.”

Which places or sites are a must for someone to see if they visit your city?

The waterfalls of the Rufabgo River are the most beautiful in the republic. Four-kilometer-long granite canyons that are 200 meters deep – it’s an excellent place for rafting. The river Meshoko is an unbelievably beautiful place with waterfalls and grottos. Khadzhokhskaya Gorge.

It is a spectactular verbal pastiche: conversation, from gutter gibberish to the drawing room; oratory, from illiterates to aristocrats; prose, from boilerplate to Tolstoy; poetry, from earthy humor to Pushkin.
