Tractors in Tomsk, TikTok, and Space Movies

In this week's Odder News, TikTok is not just for the young'uns, a tractor goes wild in Tomsk, and the Russians win the new space race.

• It is not just teens and tweens recording TikTok dances in city parks. The TikTok account of two Vladivostok babushkas (@moscowmovie) is lit. Their claim to fame is that they are ticket collectors at a movie theater called Moscow, and they have made the theater famous across Russia. (By the way, there was a movie theater in Moscow called Vladivostok, but it is now closed.) Handyman Anatoly has a thing for one of the babushkas, Natalya. She, however, does not have TikTok and has never seen her own videos. Both ladies' grandchildren reportedly support their TikTok fame.
• A total of 5,000-7,000 birds were found dead in Crimea. They are a combination of black-necked grebes, common shelducks, little auks, and steppe gulls. (Have you ever heard of any of these birds? Maybe the black-necked grebes died en masse because of their red evil eyes?). Poisoning was quickly ruled out. A week later the cause was revealed: bird flu.
• Police apprehended a drunk driver of a tractor in Tomsk. The driver stepped on the gas when police started following him. It was a "short but dangerous police chase" of the out-of-control tractor involving five sets of traffic cops.
• For the first time in history, a film crew has launched into space and landed successfully at the International Space Station (ISS). Tom Cruise is planning a trip to the ISS in October too, but with their October 5 departure, it looks like the Russians won this space race. Actress Yuliya Pereslid and director Klim Shipenko are currently at the ISS filming scenes for The Challenge. The actress's mother was at Baikonur Cosmodrome for the launch, looking a little pale. Pereslid is the first actor to shoot a feature film in space. We wish her... Break a leg?
