Imagine There's No Countries...

Imagine There's No Countries...
Borderless Map of Ukraine and Russia. Yandex Maps

...It isn't hard to do... if you are Yandex.

The Russian internet company that runs Yandex Maps (Russia's counterpart to Google Maps) has stopped showing all boundaries for states and oblasts – not just in Ukraine, but all over the world.

The move keeps it from having to choose whether or how to show the effects of Russia's illegal annexation of four Ukrainian oblasts.

In fact, Yandex stopped showing country borders back in June, saying that the company would be focusing its work on physical features, not political borders.

Similarly, with this recent move, the company said, it "continues to develop its physical-geographic map with an accent on natural features."
