Pyotr and his wife

Pyotr met his future wife in 1948, in the barracks where the young girl, along with her family and other Kalmyks, were living out their exile. The young man’s first gift to Maria was a domra that he made himself. A year later they were married. At right, the couple in Siberia in 1953.
