Production Guidelines

Russian Life has a 100% digital workflow. This requires adherence to very specific guidelines for submission of advertising materials.

We do not accept ads on film under any conditions. In some cases we can scan printed ads.

 

Print Ad Specifications

Materials must be submitted via a provided web upload address. We accept ads only in the following formats, with the noted criteria:

PDF files

• created at highest resolution (2400 dpi), usually indicated as PDF Press or High Quality/High Resolution. 
• raster images at 300 dpi; vector images at 1200 dpi.
• color output Composite CMYK
• all fonts included
• marks centered, provide sufficient copy for bleed if full page bleed ad (1/8 inch)

 

TIFF files

• the TIFF file must be the exact size of the final printed ad, including border; LZW compression should be applied
• the file must be CMYK separated, according to “SWOP, Coated” color space specifications; if you have questions about this or are uncertain about color space issues, please leave the file as RGB and let us know you have done this. 
• bitmap color art should be at 300 dpi, line art should be at 1200 dpi resolution
• 8-bit, not 16-bit color, should be used

 

EPS files

• all colors must be converted to CMYK
• all fonts must be converted to outlines
• save file with clipping paths to allow text run-around or masking where applicable.

Ad Sizes

Advertisements should be submitted digitally, with the following document sizes (all measurements are in inches):

Full page/cover with bleed	8.75	10.5
Full page no bleed	7.25	9
Half Horizontal	7.25	4.25
Third Vertical	2.865	8.75
Third Horizontal	4.15	4.25

 

For a full-page bleed ads, the ad MUST have an additional 1/8 inch of image extending beyond the document edge on all sides where there is to be a bleed.
