Igor Pantuhoff (1911-1974) studied art in Rome and Paris before coming to New York City to attend the National Academy of Design. He studied with the abstract expressionist Hans Hofman, and lived with Lee Krasner, artist and wife of the famous Jackson Pollock. He was said to be friends with Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning as well.
