Folklore includes tales, songs, proverbs, sayings and riddles, among other things. It is illustrative of a people’s attitude to themselves, nature, and life around them. Riddles are very old. They show a people’s creative power and imagination, but are also of ethnographical, historic and linguistic interest. The riddles you will find here are taken from Sadovnikov’s book Загадки русского народа, published in 1876 in St. Petersburg.
