Letters to the Editor

To the Editors:

I have enjoyed reading Russian Life for a few years, and often recommend your magazine to other people, like myself, who have adopted children from Russia. Your magazine has been an invaluable resource in providing extensive articles about Russian cities, language, culture and lifestyle.

Please consider returning the “Places in this Issue” section back inside the front cover of each issue. As I read each issue from front to back, I look forward to flipping to the map to see exactly where in Russia’s vast expanse that particular city is found. I miss the map!

Sincerely,

Patti Miller

Ms. Miller:

You are not alone in missing the map. We have heard from many readers on this score and thus decided to bring it back. You will find it on page 2 of this issue.

To the Editors:

My mother shares her issues with me. Your Russian Life magazine is beautifully designed and printed and the articles engaging.  Also, enjoy the ads which give a flavor of the rapid changes occurring in Russia today.

As a first generation American of Russian parents (they immigrated during the Russian Revolution) I have been an avid reader of your excellent publication for several years. Of particular interest to me was the upcoming series on “pockets of Russian culture in US cities” that began in the March/April 2002 issue.

It is well-understood that large cities like San Francisco, New York, Chicago would naturally have the largest number of Russian citizens, particularly recent immigrants.  However, I want to let you know that our “smaller city”, Tallahassee of approximately 200,000 also has its share of Russians, i.e. citizens from the former Soviet Republics, probably 100-200 currently.  In the last 12 years  we have had a total cross-section of Russians representing all walks of life come to the Tallahassee area either as students at our universities (Florida State University, Florida A & M University and Tallahassee Community College) or as citizens seeking job opportunities in various professions.  ...

Another interesting phenomenon is the large number of summer “guest workers” in Panama City, Florida (90 miles west of Tallahassee). ....

I wanted you to know that it is not only the larger cities that have had an influx of Russian immigrants but our “smaller” one, also!

Sincerely,

Helen Buzyna
