To the Editors:
I am a subscriber to Russian Life magazine and I enjoyed your recent article about the Romanov Toys in the Sept/Oct issue. Do you know if the toys are for sale anywhere? I thought they would make lovely Christmas gifts.
Thank You,

Kari:
Sorry to say, we don’t know of any place to find them in the US. But there are several companies that offer Russian-made gifts. You should try:

Interestingly, I started reading Russian Life in 1964 when I was in the United States Marine Corps. The person delivering the mail to the unit saw my magazine, and turned my name over to Naval Intelligence and I was brought in for an “Interview”; additionally, Naval Intelligence initiated an investigation and then “re-did” a background check and spoke with neighbors and friends as to my loyalty to the United States. All to no avail of course, I just love Russia and the Orthodox Church.

I enjoyed your PostScript “And a Babushka Laughed” (Sep/Oct 2017) about the magazine’s Children of 1917 project. It sounds fascinating. Can you tell me when the book and/or movie will be released?

Dear William:
Thanks for asking! Work is proceeding at a breakneck pace. We expect the movie to be released (and available for streaming) in November. And the book will be sent to the printer before the end of the year, which means it should be available in January.
