At the Dacha

It is surprising to see how many of Chekhov’s comic stories stand the test of time and can still be read with enjoyment more than a hundred years after they were written. This story deals with a family enjoying its summer vacation in the country. The word дача in the title is culture specific; some of the more difficult words are glossed with footnotes.

Read the text of this excerpt from Anton Chekhov’s comic story and answer the questions at the end.
