The Reserves

At the beginning of September 1941, an inventory was taken of all food reserves, cattle, poultry and grain in the city. Based on the real needs of the troops and population, on September 12, 1941 there was: flour and grain for 35 days; buckwheat and macaroni for 30 days; meat for 33 days; fat for 45 days; sugar and candies for 60 days. In order to economize on food, stolovayas, restaurants and other public eating establishments were closed. The consumption of food products over the established limits without special permission of the Supreme Soviet was strictly forbidden.
