Viktoria Vzyatysheva was born in St. Petersburg and educated there as a journalist. Since 2012 she has been a special correspondent for the local news website Bumaga (found at paperpaper.ru), focusing on her native city and its people. Her stories range from disappearing local ethnic minorities to the city’s scientists. Her series of articles about local characters – like bus ticket attendant Viktor Petrovich and street trumpet player Uncle Misha – won Russia’s 2014 Golden Pen award.
