SAMUIL MARSHAK (1887-1964) was an exceptionally gifted poet of verse for children, an editor, and a translator of Shakespeare, Robert Burns, Rudyard Kipling and others. Many of the brilliant lines from his work have become common aphorisms in everyday Russian speech.
