Maria Vega

MARIA VEGA (pseudonym of Maria Volyntseva, 1898-1980) was a poet, translator, and song writer whose cabaret song Black Moth became a hit in Russian émigré communities all over the world and exists in countless versions. Missing Russia more and more as she got older, Vega accepted Soviet citizenship and returned to the USSR, where she published several volumes of poetry before she died.
