Ludmila Ulitskaya

Ludmila Ulitskaya is one of Russia’s leading contemporary writers. Trained as a biologist, she started writing short stories and screenplays in the late 1980s. In 2001, she became the first woman to win the Russian Booker Prize. Her 2015 novel Jacob’s Ladder combines fiction, autobiography and materials from a family archive. Her works have received numerous literary awards in France and Italy, and in 2014 she became an Officer of France’s Legion of Honor.
