Hide

Reindeer meat goes into the pot. The cutlets that greeted us on the table our first evening in Lovozero were superb. To yield more meat, and more tender meat, the reindeer are castrated. Their hides are used too, sewn into traditional clothing. For that, hides taken in May or early summer work best. But many visitors prefer winter hides, with their thicker fur, laid by the fireplace or on a car seat.
