To the Editors:
Thank you for your fine articles on Tchaikovsky in the last issue [July/August 2000]. I hope to see more articles on Russian music in the future!
One thing I would like to comment/ complain about is that you never “preview” what will be coming in future issues. I understand you can’t always say these things with 100% certainty, but it would be nice to have a foretaste of things to come.
Expectantly yours,
Sam Williams

Mr. Williams:
Thank you for your letter.
We, too would love to offer more “forecasting” in each issue. But, on a magazine such as ours things can be in such flux that well-planned stories get dropped at the last minute and unexpected stories become leads in the same time period.
Therefore, we are always hesitant to say exactly what will be in the next or future issues, because we ourselves are not usually 100% certain while working on the previous issue.
That said, we will mention some stories we are working on for the months ahead (with the caveat that these are not “promises”). Of course, we have two more segments in Dr. Brumfield’s series, “East Across Siberia.” The next installment will cover Novosibirsk. Also in the next issue we will have some wonderful stories for Christmas, and a profile on Nikolai Roerich, among other stories which we cannot disclose at this time.
Some other interesting articles in the works for next year include stories about the Russian Civil War, a visit to Tula, profiles of several little-known artists and writers, as well as an article on Mikhail Bulgakov. We are also looking at unique travel stories about Kamchatka, the Trans-Siberian Railway and Kaliningrad. Plus there are some interesting articles brewing on the Russian Circus, Cheating in Russia, Paul I, Caviar, Valenki and Banyas.
... And these are just the stories we know about!
Meanwhile, we should mention that we are really excited about the results from our First Reader Photo Contest. The response to this contest was overwhelming! We received over 200 entries and lots of really excelling photos. The results will be announced and the best submissions printed in a long photo feature in the next issue.
