Imre Nagy's Last Address


(Starting at 5:20 a.m. on the morning of November 4 1956, the radio station Sabad Kossuth Radio broadcast continuously from a studio set up in the building of the Hungarian parliament.)

“This is the Chariman of the Council of Ministers of the Hungarian People’s Republic Imre Nagy. Today at dawn, Soviet troops began an offensive on our capital with the clear intention of overthrowing the lawful Hungarian democratic government.

Our troops are carrying on the struggle! The government is in place.
