Chronology

1918

March 3 – Under duress of attack by the Central Powers, Russia accedes to the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

March 12 – Moscow is made the capital of the new Soviet state.

April 5 – Japanese troops land in Vladivostok

May 25 – The 50,000-strong Czech Legion joins forces allied against the Bolsheviks

June 23 – The Siberian Government is established, with headquarters in Omsk.

June 28 – All major industrial enterprises are nationalized.

July 15 – US Marines and army troops arrive in Vladivostok.

July 17 – The royal family is executed in Yekaterinburg.

November 18 – Admiral Alexander Kolchak takes over the Omsk-based White government in a coup, declaring himself “supreme ruler of Russia.”

1919 

February 14 – All land is nationalized.

March 4 – Kolchak launches an offensive west, toward Samara, advancing to as close as 100 km from the Volga.

April 11 – The Soviet government makes the battle in the East its top priority.

May 26 – The Western Allies agree to support Kolchak.

July 9 – Kolchak loses Ufa to the Red Army.

October 10 – The Western Allies place an economic blockade on Russia that lasts until January 1920.

November 14 – The Red Army takes Omsk from Kolchak’s forces.

 

1920 

January 4 – Kolchak renounces his title of Supreme Ruler in favor of General Anton Denikin.

February 7 – Kolchak is captured and executed in Irkutsk.
