Novosibirsk is not a huge center for tourism. In 1999, there were just 3,451 recorded foreign visitors to the city, 2,620 of them on business. Still, the number of foreign tourists has been growing by about 10-15% per year.
Given this low level of tourism, it should not be surprising that there are no first-class hotels in Novosibirsk. The Hotel Sibir, a two star hotel, is generally considered best by tourists visiting the city (ph. 7-3832-231-215, fax 7-3832-238-766).
There are over 200 restaurants in the city, offering everything from Japanese, to Czech to American cuisine, so the traveler should have no trouble finding a good, inexpensive bite to eat in the city.
For assistance in establishing local travel arrangements, you may want to contact one of the best established local firms, Acris-Tour (35 Krasny prospekt, ph. 7-3832-180-011, fax 7-3832-181-011, web www.acris.ace.ru).
There are daily flights between Moscow and Novosibirsk on Transaero and Aeroflot (4 hours).
