Letters to the Editor

To the Editors:

Just a note to correct an inaccuracy in the recent article on the Vaganova  Academy [Nov/Dec 2008].  Contrary to a statement on p. 31, George Balanchine was not an alum of the Vaganova Ballet Academy. Balanchine graduated from the Imperial Ballet School in 1921.  Vaganova began teaching at the School of Russian Ballet in Petrograd in 1921.  The school was renamed in her honor in 1957.  At no time could Balanchine have studied in a school under the Vaganova method: it did not yet exist at that time.

Thank you for a wonderful magazine!  More performing arts articles, specifically dance, would be appreciated!

Sincerely,

Diana R. Clanin

To the Editors:

Greetings. Great magazine publication, that I always enjoy reading, but on page 14, Nov/Dec 2008 issue, can’t you tell that there is something not right with the photo of President Medvedev and the athletes? Look at his head, body size and position... It looks like a poor attempt at doctoring the photo... Did you check the source of that photo? I can’t believe it is real...

Sincerely,

MZ

It is real, MZ. We selected it from a series of photos, taken one after the other, and it is clearly undoctored.

To the Editors:

I took interest in your column re. Russian bards [Jan/Feb 2009], and I tried out the different webpages.

One problem occurred: when trying to enter kulichi.com/vv I was automatically transferred to: rususa.com

I play in a balalaika orchestra, Norsk Balalaikaorkester, in Oslo, which will be 90 in 2010 – the oldest orchestra of its kind outside Russia. This is our Internet page:

www.123hjemmeside.no/nbo

Your column has now been translated to Norwegian has entered the page “Russiske skalder.”

Do also take a look at the other pages, as many of these have pages from Russia with mp3 files etc.

Best regards,

Age Jonny Jorgensen

Sorry. The correct website is: kulichki.ru/vv
