To the Editors:
Just a short note about “A Tale of Two Bottles,” by Paul Richardson [Editor Notes], in the last issue of your magazine (which I enjoy so much). As far as I remember, in 1982 (I was only an 11-year-old kid in Kiev, Ukraine then) you could not purchase vodka or any other strong drink before 11 am. Later, Gorbachev pushed the no-vodka clock till to 2 pm. So my guess you were trying to buy vodka in the morning.
Cheers!

As a member of a Parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), and a figure skating professional, I must point out a few small errors in your May/June 2008 issue. On page 10, in the Notebook section, you mention that Metropolitan Laurus was head of the OCA since 2001, when in fact he was head of ROCOR. Also, he passed away at Holy (not Saint) Trinity Monastery, in Jordonville, (not Jacksonville) NY.
On page 14, in the Notebook sports section, you write that Sergei Voronov’s perfect performance in the free dance vaulted him into 7th place… in fact, it was his performance in the long program, which is called a “free skate” (not dance).
I enjoy Russian Life immensely, and look forward to each issue.
Thank you and best regards,

Really enjoyed your article “Crossing Russia by Boat.” This needs world wide attention, because the people involved are heroic and they show determination. They are more than brave travelers, they are adventurous pioneers! What an endeavor to cross all of Russia by rivers! I salute their bravery!

From the Editors:
Nathaniel Christopher, author of our article on Russian Vancouver (May/June 2008), has written to tell us he understated the number of Russian restaurants in the city: there are at least four (not one). And there are at least six stores selling Russian goods. A good source of information about Russian events in the city is the Russian Cultural Centre’s website:
