Letters to the Editor

To the Editors:

When the December 1996 edition of Russian Life arrived, I turned with interest  to the  article , The Holy Image Makers. As an Orthodox Christian, I like to read anything that  has to do with my own faith.

The article is very interesting and informative, but there is an error in it that needs to be corrected. The author states that Orthodox Christians  worship icons. We do not. As Christians, we worship God only. For us, icons are windows into heaven, and as such are greatly  loved.

Thanks for letting me set you straight on this subject.

Sincerely,

Ruth H. Lucas

West Hartford, CT

To the Editors:

My family and I would like to make the pelmeni recipe that was published in the February 1996 issue of Russian Life, but we have a question. The recipe calls for 10.5 ounces of beef and pork: is the meat supposed to be cooked before  put into the dough?

Thank  you for your help,

James Lambert

(via e-mail)

Dear James,

The meat is put into the dough  raw, and then the entire pelmeni  is cooked. Enjoy!
