Irina Polyanskaya was born in the family of a persecuted scientist who worked on secret nuclear projects in a Stalinist camp. She eventually graduated from the Gorky Institute of Literature, and gained public recognition as an actor, writer, and editor. The story in this volume was awarded the Yuri Kozakov Award for the Best Short Story of the Year in 2003.
