Rebecca Gould is Reader in Translation Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Bristol in England. Her translations include The Prose of the Mountains: Tales of the Caucasus, from which excerpts are included here, and After Tomorrow the Days Disappear: Ghazals and Other Poems of Hasan Sijzi of Delhi (Northwestern University Press, 2016). She is also the author of Writers and Rebels: The Literature of Insurgency in the Caucasus (Yale University Press, 2016). She began translating Qazbegi when she move to Tbilisi in 2004 and fell so strongly in love with his work that she continued translating his stories until she had completed what became her first book length translation.
