1 contribution found for Russian Life and/or Chtenia.

Pyotr Shiryayev (1886-1935) was an anti-tsarist revolutionary before he became an accomplished translator, and then a writer. For his involvement in the events of 1905, he was arrested and exiled to Siberia, and after serving his sentence, emigrated to France, and eventually Italy. He first received critical acclaim for his translations of Italian short stories; Shiryayev’s first original work, “Scum” came out in 1925, and was soon followed by a series of novellas and a novel. Taglioni’s Grandson remains Shiriayev’s best known and most beloved book.
