The world’s biggest country, in a magazine. Since 1956.
HARRY T. WILLETS was Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s most trusted—and widely considered to be his best—translator, having worked on the Gulag Archipelago. Fluent in 14 languages, he was a reader for Harvill, the esteemed British publishing house, and a Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University. He died in 2005, shortly after completing final translation work on the new, complete version of In the First Circle, excerpted in Chtenia 08.
