On August 5, Apple Podcasts removed Meduza's news show Chto Sluchilos (What Happened) from its streaming services. No reason was given to Meduza for the American company's actions, but Meduza was recently declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government for its independent reporting.

Chto Sluchilos is Meduza's signature daily current affairs podcast. Hosted by journalist Vladislav Gorin, the show has 990 episodes to date. Roskomnadzor, Russian supervisor of communications and the media, has judicially persecuted the show for its content.

The government agency's latest strategy to censor independent journalism has been to go after platforms like Apple. On August 3, a Moscow court fined the American company R400,000 ($4,172 USD) for refusing to remove Chto Sluchilos from its podcast streaming service.

Meduza recognized that Apple's decision was a blow to the show. However, the podcast is still available on TelegramSpotify, Google Podcasts, YouTube, and Castbox. In addition, past episodes can be accessed using an RSS link.
