Drilling Down

Drilling Down
Footage from the school drill on October 19. Youtube, Lutra

On October 19, students at a Russian school in a Black Sea town were surprised by the sounds of gunfire from masked men wielding machine guns, only to find out later that it was a surprise terrorist drill.

Neither students, teachers, or parents were warned of the drill, which elicited numerous complaints from angry parents, whose children were surprised by seeing masked men shooting near their teachers.

According to one parent, they were told about the drill only 30 minutes before it started, and they were not made aware that the drill would resemble an actual terrorist attack.

The drill occurred in the town of Gelendzhik, on the Black Sea coast not far from Crimea. This is relatively close to Ukraine, which is likely why the school administration thought such a drill would be a good idea (Russian media has often characterized Ukrainian forces as "terrorists").

Gelendzhik also happens to be the location of Putin's gaudy getaway.
