Join us at The Museum of Russian Art for A Conversation with Sergey Mironenko. Between 1992 and 2016, Mironenko was Director of the State Archive of the Russian Federation. His tenure at the State Archive spans an earth-shattering era for Russia in the wake of the Soviet collapse.
As the head of Russia's major depository of historical documents, he oversaw a declassification of the classified archives. At the start of his career as the director of the State Archives, approximately 40 percent of the files in the state archive were classified, with a global norm of about 4-5 percent. Mironenko spearheaded the "archival revolution" putting previously inaccessible information into the public sphere.
