Liliana Lungina was a leading literary translator in the Soviet Union. She translated, among many authors, the works of Astrid Lindgren, August Stringerg, Henrik Ibsen, Henrich Boll, Knut Hamsun, and Boris Vian. The acclaimed director Oleg Dorman interviewed Lungina for a documentary film based on her life, which was released in 2009 and became one of the most popular television programs in Russian history. The documentary was then transcribed into a book, Podstrochnik, which was a bestseller, and which is has released in English by Overlook Press, under the title Word for Word.
